One genre that’s not too common in Nollywood is Horror (exempting maybe Juju films)! So it’s not surprising that I went into this movie with mixed expectations.

A horror movie starring Ebi Bright and John Dumelo and nobody else (well there were other people, just not anyone with household names) creates a mix of emotions. From the synopsis, the movie seemed promising but for me, who is too chicken to watch American horror flicks, I was even more uncertain than your average joe going into this movie.

What if it’s really scary and I can’t watch it because God forgot to give me the liver for Horror flicks? Or what if it’s terrible and I have to sit through an hour and fifty one minutes of laughable attempts at a scary movie?

In the end, the movie wasn’t really much of a horror flick. The horror aspect was taken away by a combination of many factors like the misspelling of the title of the movie (Hunted House), the fluctuating audio, the shaky ghost frame graphics and other things.

Like I said earlier, there were really only two actors in this movie: John Dumelo and Ebi Bright. John Dumelo, who usually just does as John Dumelo does, actually did bring more to the table in this movie. Not much more, but still more. More was required of him and he was required to actually act and emote which he did well. Ebi Bright is a good actress but she occasionally tends to be overly dramatic.

Overall, the movie was pretty obvious and a fair enough attempt at a horror movie.Haunted House, 6.0 out of 10 based on 1 rating

Wrong spelling for movie title? Complete TURN OFF.
I bet, I can watch this all alone without running out of my room.

There were some old Nollywood horror movies that were good, but I haven’t seen any in a while. This one sounds OK, except the typo in their title, say what!?

I give the movie a seven out of ten. Thank God there wasn’t any juju scenes or a pastor running out to pray to cleanse the house or the antagonising mother in law. This story was fresh, done in a realistic way for an African movie. I could see the possibilities of this happening and also I liked the lessons I learnt about family values and also been cautious of things you buy or do. it was simply done. I like the picture quality and sound for once praise God was good I didn’t have to keep touching the volume button each time.

This movies was well done. Simple, but realistic, well written and to the point. I love the fact that they only used John D. as the only big actor. The supporting casts were very good. As compare to other nollywood movies I rate this a 10. You have to remember is that movies have what most nollywood movies lacked. A clear story line that doesn’t go all over the place, no over used actors/actresses, a beginning, middle, and end and a good soundtrack. The director and writers didn’t try to pull a whole bunch of tricks but simply stay true to the story. The movies was very good and different, I had to read the credits to see who were behind it. I noticed that these were names that didn’t sound familiar. Most seems Liberian. Maybe Nollywood needs to really start reaching outside the norm for some fresh ideas and not the same old tired formula. If you haven’t seen it, you should check it out. You will love every minute of it.
