Different kind of story
Slow storyline progression
-Story: [4 out of 5] You know the most dominant thing about suspense and thriller flicks? They are hard to write. They might be difficult to direct, produce, act in or narrate for but I don’t think anything would be harder than actually penning down the story. One loose end and everything falls out of place. One disregarded detail and your entire work is devalued. Fortunately though, there are no loose ends in this movie (although I still don’t understand how red shirt girl was able to hear the clock chiming when Mike was the one on the bluetooth… but I shan’t mention that, make e no come be like say na me see pass). One can argue that this is a double movie with Austin Faani’s “Queen’s Desire“. Granted, there are a couple similar motifs like the return from America, Martha’s eye operation, the whole royalty shindig and the glaring fact that Martha and Mike are a couple in both movies but that’s about where the similarities end. What’s my point? It was a good story
-Originality: [4 out of 5] I’ve never seen this story before, that’s for sure… (if you have then back it up with proof and leave a comment letting me know)
-Predictability: [4 out of 5] Didn’t see that coming. And even when I thought I had it a little figured out… something else happened
-Directing/Editing: [2 out of 5] Two part movie (Can I get a Hallelujah someborri)! I loved the camera action in this movie. I think this is definitely one of the best camera actions I’ve ever seen in a Nollywood suspense flick yet the directing for this movie seemed a bit off. Not amateurish. Not professional but somewhere in the middle. My point? Good script. Needs better directing. Not to state that Faani is incompetent… this was actually pretty impressive for a Nigerian movie without that much funding/sponsorship. Just needed better directing.
-Acting quality: [3 out of 5] I realized a couple things with this movie but one of them (if not the most important) is that I miss John Njamah! Yes, I do. I’m tired of only being able to see you on the numerous re-runs of Fuji House of Commotion I get on TV… Please come back biko. Mike and John were fantabulous… Mike especially did a phenomenal job with his role (then again, so did John!…. I can’t choose abeg). Walter Anga’s performance was on point. The lady in the red shirt, whose character’s name I didn’t catch, had her on and off moments. Martha Ankomah. I don’t know why they keep giving Martha these mysterious roles to play. It doesn’t flow naturally from within her. She can act the role but the thing is we can tell that she’s acting. She doesn’t at any point become the character
-Setting: [3 out of 5] On point
-Costume/Make-Up: [2 out of 5] Y’all literally had a ball up in Martha’s belly region in the name of baby bump… that thing was too perfectly rounded to pass as a baby bump… mba
-Props and Graphics: [1 out of 5] Somebody explain to me how Mike is able to identify his grandfather/great grandfather from some ‘Simbi goes to school’ looking sketch? And… sparks at the end of a gun? Really? Are we still on this in 2012?
-Video Quality: [4 out of 5] Nicely done
-Audio Quality [4 out of 5] Amazing
-Soundtrack: [3 out of 5] Was one of Austine Erowele’s originals also used in one of those 2008-9 Ghanaian movies directed by Frank Rajah (I just don’t recall which one exactly). Still a good song
-Musical Score: [4 out of 5] Austine Nwa mama… this movie would have been a serious failure without the amazing score to back it up
